Moving from California to Idaho
Many peers asked me, “why Idaho?” I mean, what’s not to love with California living there all my life, having great weather, being close to the mountains, beaches, amusement parks and many other attractions that draw visitors from all over the world? Some areas that sparked my interest here in Idaho were affordability; less traffic; lower taxes; a growing community; raising a family; decreased crime; friendly neighborhoods; close access to lakes and rivers, hiking, fishing and the enjoyment of the peaceful serenity on the Boise river greenbelt. These compelling factors are what sparked my interest and brought my family to Idaho making it an easy decision.
The next question was “what area of Idaho would we choose when moving from Southern California?” Idaho, most commonly known for its potatoes, and other things like microchips, potato chips, and ammo clips has so many options including community functions, events, modern malls and shops. You can enjoy more seasons as well. As far as the housing communities, Idaho offers homes with acreage, farms, homes within a master-plan association, homes with acreage, providing a variety of property choices and lifestyle for every type of buyer. My personal choice was to purchase a home in an association where it has a common pool and park to easily meet other families in the neighborhood.
We originally came to the Treasure Valley, located in the southern part of Idaho, with no expectations and just an open mind to see what Idaho had to offer. After touring Boise, Meridian and Eagle for less than a week, we decided to purchase a home in a subdivision located within Eagle for our family to start our beginnings in this wonderful state of Idaho. The neighbors were very friendly and have since become our friends with having social gatherings at each other’s homes. We have also found that most of the Treasure Valley is very driven toward outdoor activities bringing together many friends and families, and it presents many opportunities to make new friends with common interests.
Since moving to Idaho, I have become a member of the Building Contractors Association in which I can share with you that there are many new developments expanding daily within the Treasure Valley from multiple builders. Also, I have seen cooperation from these local smaller builders working within the same subdivisions giving a variety of architectural style to a neighborhood. It’s a thriving market of Real Estate and a great time to get in.
Twice a year, between 30 to 40 homes are built and showcased from the different home builders in what they call the Parade of Homes, usually spread out all over the Treasure Valley open to the public. These homes present some unique opportunities because of their superior interior designing, beautiful flooring, window treatments, elite wall coverings and moldings, and high-end appliances. Some are even available for purchase and some are already purchased. However, this speaks to the quality of home building offered in Idaho and gives you a chance to see which builder’s style best suits your taste and needs for your own custom home build if you choose.
Having knowledge of the California market, this area of Idaho meets many of the wants and needs for buyers from California at a much more affordable price while giving them more options for their dollar.
