About Idaho Real Estate
Idaho has many different cities that are so unique and all present something different. Here are some examples of rural areas and cities developed within the state.
Garden City is a city in Ada County, Idaho, United States. The population was 10,972 at the 2010 census. Garden City is nearly surrounded by Boise but retains a separate municipal government.
Another unique area is Horseshoe Bend, which was originally settled as a gold miners' staging area, as prospectors waited along the river for snows to thaw at the higher elevations. Gold had been discovered originally in the Boise Basin mountains. This area became known as Warrinersville which was named after a local sawmill operator. In 1867, the name was changed to Horseshoe Bend. Once the gold rush dwindled, the city became a prosperous ranching and logging community. In 1913, the railroad from Emmett up to Long Valley following the Payette River was completed. In 1998 the city's primary employer was Boise Cascade which has since closed its sawmill on September 30.
One other city closeby is McCall, a resort town was named after its founder, Tom McCall and is located on the southern shore of Payette Lake, near the center of the Payette National Forest. Originally, this was a logging community whose last sawmill closed in 1977. McCall is known as an all-season tourist destination for outdoor recreation. The resort town is known for its Winter Carnival, extended winters, and one of the highest average snowfalls in the state.
